The oldest active Latvian football club Ventspils, whose current owner Adlans Šišhanovs wants to leave it by selling a controlling stake, is in an unenviable situation at the very beginning of the season. The Russian businessman announced this shortly after the start of the new season, creating an unenviable situation – salaries are not paid, players are uncertain about the future and the club is barely able to provide basic needs. The entire coaching staff with Moldovan specialist Viorel Frunzi has already left. It has been unofficially announced that all foreign players will soon leave the team. For the time being, however, this is not possible, as there is no person entitled to sign in the club who could sign documents on behalf of the unit.
It is interesting that a new legal entity or football team has already been established in Ventspils, which initially plans to start in the 3rd Latvian League and with a view to take over the city’s current club position in the Super League in the future. Similar to what happened several years ago in Liepāja after the break-up of the “Liepājas Metalurgs” team.
They will lead an uncertain battle for survival, and they opened the season catastrophically with 8 defeats after 11 games. Spartaks on the road are quite weak with only one victory after 8 games with 7 defeats. The team is made up of a lot of internationals with as many as 7 players from Africa, among whom the best are Leonel Wamba and Richard Friday. I believe they have the quality to take advantage of the big problems in Ventspils and grab the three points.
