Recap

Standard Liege forfeited against Westerlo last weekend, because the supporters had blocked their own team at the training center. The supporters want the owners 777 Partners to gone as quickly as possible, while the club had a particularly bad season in terms of sport. But extra sportively, things are going much worse, with a lot of financial problems this season. Standard has been struggling with payment problems all season and it seems that this will not be resolved quickly. Various sources said this week that the players salaries were still not paid. The court of first instance in Liège seized Standard’s assets and accounts on Thursday. The seizure is said to have come after a complaint from, among others, former chairman Bruno Venanzi and the owners of the stadium against 777 Partners, the American investment company that owns the club. Another problem is the injuries of defenders such as Bodart (34/0), Laifis (26/2), Alzate (24/2), O’Neill (23/1), Vanheusden (21/0), Bokadi (18/1), Ngoy (15/1) and Doumbia (11/0). Gent stopped the winning streak of 4 matches, after a 0-1 home defeat by Leuven, where they had a total domination with 10 shots on target, but couldn’t score a goal. They are offensively minded team and scored 2 or more goals in the last 5 mutual matches. Both teams are relaxed in terms of points, but Standard is in deep crisis and expect to receive at least two goals.
