Portugal will visit the Rajko Mitic Stadium in Belgrade in the second round of Group A. Under the new coach Dragan Stojkovic Piksi, Serbia didn’t start the game against Ireland in the best way. They conceded a goal in the 18th minute and were generally not so good in the first 40 minutes. Despite that, they equalized through Dušan Vlahović before the break. Then, in the second half, Aleksandar Mitrović added two more goals and they proved to be enough for the opening victory. Stojković surprised in his debut because he left some experienced players on the bench (Milinković-Savić, Gudelj, Jović, Kostić, Mitrović), while he started with players who have played less so far. He brought in most of the experienced players in the second half, so it is questionable which starting eleven he will put against Portugal. Aleksandar Kolarov and Luka Milivojevic are out due to coronavirus, while Aleksandar Katai and Nikola Maksimovic were not even called due to injuries.
Portugal started the qualifiers with a victory in Turin over Azerbaijan. The real surprise is that the Portuguese scored only one goal, and even the goal was an own goal by Maxim Medvedev. Although Portugal won by just one goal difference, their victory was never in question. They had 68% ball possession, 15 shots on goal, and 10 corners. On the other hand, they didn’t allow a single shot on their goal. Portugal is the favorite today and it is no surprise because they come with top players like Cristiano Ronaldo, Joao Felix, Pedro Neto, Bruno Fernandes, Bernardo Silva, Joao Cancelo, Ruben Dias and I believe they will confirm their quality and reach the three points.
