Recap

Last June, Ukraine beat Scotland at Hampden Park by 1:3 and left them out of the World Cup. After the elimination by Ukraine, Scotland defeated Armenia 2:0, lost 3:0 in Ireland and won 1:4 in Armenia in Nations League – League B. With a win over Ukraine, they become favorites for 1st place, because on Saturday, they welcome Ireland and complete the group duty on Tuesday in Poland against Ukraine. Today, coach Steve Clarke had some key absences like captain Robertson (Liverpool), Souttar (Rangers), Cooper (Leeds), Stewart (Sunderland), Brown (Stoke), Hanley (Norwich), and goalkeeper McLaughlin (Rangers). Ukraine continues to lead the group race, remaining alone in first place, but also unbeaten after three matches. They easily won against Armenia (3:0), Ireland (0:1), but failed to beat Ireland in the last rounds (1:1). Both home matches were held in Poland, since they couldn’t compete on Ukrainian soil due to the war. Today, coach Petrakov had some key absences like Zinchenko (Arsenal), Sobol (Club Brugge), Mykolenko (Everton), goalkeeper Bushchan, Shaparenko and Popov all from Dynamo Kyiv. With a victory, Scotland climbs to the top by knocking down Ukraine from there, but I think that Ukraine has a better team with Yarmolenko, Yaremchuk and Malinovskyi upfront, who can cause a lot of problems for Scotland’s weak defence. Expect a big battle, where both teams will score at least a goal.
