Recap
The players of the Panthers Schwenningen were able to use the weekend without games to regenerate. Most recently, coach Alen Velcic’s decimated team had to put up with two clear home defeats in a row against Artland (74:95) and PS Karlsruhe (66:94) – also because the small player rotation over the course of the game made a noticeable loss of strength. The gap in the table to a non-relegation zone is now a whopping ten points for the Panthers. After the international break, the team from two cities have two difficult away games on the weekend within less than 48 hours. The Schwenningen basketball team will first go to Hagen on Friday. After the firebirds missed the playoffs in the Proa A Bundesliga in the last four seasons, they are now fully on course for qualifying for the playoff. In the summer, the South Westphalians made good commitments and brought well-known reinforcements to the squad with JJ Mann (previously Leverkusen), Bjarne Kraushaar, and Tim Uhlemann (both switched from BBL relegated Gießen). With a record of 14 wins from the first 23 games, Hagen is one of the top teams in the league and is currently fourth in the table.
Despite ongoing insolvency proceedings, the Schwenningen basketball players can keep playing during the current season. After Basketball Villingen-Schwenningen GmbH filed an application to open insolvency proceedings at the district court of Villingen-Schwenningen on February 7, 2023, the continuation of ongoing game operations was in acute jeopardy. All in all, the guests have only 7 available players from the 1st team in their roster and Phoenix Hagen must take a convincing victory.
