Recap
Lecco claimed promotion to Serie B through Europe’s toughest process, the promotion play-offs. No one could have considered them as favorites, but they beat Ancona, Pordenone, Cesena, and Foggia in succession to return to Serie B after 50 years. They were initially denied promotion because they were late in declaring their home base (their stadium doesn’t meet the requirements), but a well-documented appeal was successful and last Tuesday, it was finally and irrevocably decided that they would join Serie B. Coach Luciano Foschi remains, they strengthen the team with some mediocre players, and despite the fact that the roster is not convincing at the moment, the newcomers are optimistic about their course this year. Today, they have two important absences, because due to suspensions from last season, Nicolò Buso (37/8) and Doudou Mangni (37/3) are out of the squad. Catanzaro welcomed Spezia from an outsider position, playing for the first time in front of their home crowd (they played in a neutral venue the previous home game), and reached the emphatic 3-0 victory, after a magical performance. The 2-1-0 record is more than positive for the newcomers. and due to suspension, Oliveri (3/0) is unavailable.
Catanzaro has entered the league very strongly, while Lecco is a rookie, has had a difficult summer, losing some important players like Zuccon (40/0), Girelli (38/3), and Lakti (35/3). The match will be played in neutral Stadio Euganeo in Padova.
