Recap
Breda took a very important double regarding the battle for a place in the promotion play offs. They beat Dordrecht (3:2) and Jong PSV (1:2) away to reach 40 points and catch Jong AZ in eighth place. At the same time, they reached 16 points in the third period of the championship, one less than the leader Jong AZ. If they win in tonight’s final game, then they automatically secure a place in the play offs. They have some long term absences, and only important missing’s are de Rooij (18/2) and Herrmann (16/2). Maastricht remained on 41 points, and dropped to seventh place in the standings. In 2023, they are in a huge downfall with only 2 victories in 10 matches (2-2-6), while away from home they have won only 1 point in the last 7 games. Coach Verberne has some serious absences, and can’t count on Souren (26/6 second scorer), Van Helden (24/2), and Zeegers (13/0). The recent home performance against Maastricht was positive with 7 victories in the last 9 mutual matches, and I think that Breda has the momentum to add the 3rd win in a row and win the title in the third period.
