Recap
Basel was fairly eliminated in the semi-finals of the Conference League by Fiorentina after extra time. The 1-2 win in the first leg in Italy gave them a slight lead in qualification, but in the second leg, they were really bad. They faced huge defensive problems, especially in aerial duels, and showed a few things offensively. In the championship, they were defeated 6-1 by St. Gallen away from home, playing with many changes in the starting lineup. Due to injuries and suspensions key players Burger (28/3), Adams (27/1), Millar (24/0), Xhaka (20/0), Lopez (19/1), and Comas (13/2) are out of the squad. Lugano is undefeated in the last 7 league matches (4-3-0). They are leading a fight for the European ticket and have a chance to lift the trophy in the Cup, having a Cup final against Young Boys on the 4th of June. Basel is expected to carry the fatigue and frustration of their midweek Conference League semi-final exit by Fiorentina and will also struggle with key absences. Lugano remains undefeated for seven league matches and will give their best to continue the good momentum.
