After a heavy defeat in the first round against Hoffenheim (0:4), a draw with Frankfurt away was a good result for Augsburg, because they managed to somehow get a point. Frankfurt sent 20 shots towards the goal, but they didn’t manage to score a goal. They have problems with injuries especially in the last line, because three defensive players Moravek (2/0), Strobl (29/0 last season), Gouweleeuw (1/0), and forward Finnbogason (17/0 last season) are unavailable. On the other hand, Leverkusen drew with Union Berlin at the start of the season (1:1), while in the derby in the last round they convincingly defeated Monchengladbach (4:0). They failed to achieve on-the-road victory in a total of 7 matches in a row, including this and last season, therefore the motivation to win this match is even greater. So far, the defense looks quite stable, with only one goal conceded.
All in all, Leverkusen is playing quite well, the victory in the derby gave the players an incentive to continue with good games. Augsburg, on the other hand, looked really harmless, with no shots on goal since the season started. Interestingly, Augsburg has never beaten Leverkusen in history in a total of 20 games played in the Bundesliga, and I think this series will continue.
